WHIRLPOOL SELECTS emWARE
AND DOMOSYS TO NETWORK ITS INTEGRATED HOME SOLUTIONS

BENTON HARBOR, Mich., Nov.28, 2000 - Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE: WHR) today announced agreements with emWare Inc. and Domosys Corporation that will deliver the power of the Internet to a new generation of appliances in North America.

As part of Whirlpool's Integrated Home Solutions Initiative, the companies' combined technologies will bring the benefits of the networked home into American households through existing power lines.

Under the agreement, emWare will provide Whirlpool with its EMIT® device networking software to remotely control, manage and diagnose Whirlpool's new Internet-connected appliances; and Domosys will supply the communication components that move information around the home via its electrical wiring.

A refrigerator mounted web pad will place the Internet at consumers' fingertips in the center of the home, the kitchen. "We believe that these new technologies will help us further our strategy of providing innovative solutions with our products and services to consumers in and around the home," said Michael Thieneman, executive vice president and chief technology officer, Whirlpool Corporation.

"The unique combination of technologies from emWare and Domosys will help consumers access cost-effective home networks by simply plugging the new generation appliances into a standard power outlet." Whirlpool's Integrated Home Solutions Initiative includes the development of a wide variety of new products and enhanced services including a new generation of Whirlpool and KitchenAid brand appliances that are linked to the Internet and offer new levels of innovation, functionality, and convenience.

The combination of new appliance products and enhanced Internet-based services from Whirlpool will help families keep up the family calendar, manage community and social activities, work from anywhere, shop on-line with ease, and learn and play in exciting new ways.
