HARBOR, Mich., Nov.28, 2000 - Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE:
WHR) today announced agreements with emWare Inc. and Domosys
Corporation that will deliver the power of the Internet to
a new generation of appliances in North America.
As part
of Whirlpool's Integrated Home Solutions Initiative, the companies'
combined technologies will bring the benefits of the networked
home into American households through existing power lines.
Under the agreement, emWare will provide Whirlpool with its
EMIT® device networking software to remotely control, manage
and diagnose Whirlpool's new Internet-connected appliances;
and Domosys will supply the communication components that
move information around the home via its electrical wiring.
A refrigerator mounted web pad will place the Internet at
consumers' fingertips in the center of the home, the kitchen.

our strategy of providing innovative solutions with our products
and services to consumers in and around the home," said Michael
Thieneman, executive vice president and chief technology officer,
Whirlpool Corporation.
"The unique combination of technologies from emWare and Domosys
will help consumers access cost-effective home networks by
simply plugging the new generation appliances into a standard
power outlet." Whirlpool's Integrated Home Solutions Initiative
includes the development of a wide variety of new products
and enhanced services including a new generation of Whirlpool
and KitchenAid brand appliances that are linked to the Internet
and offer new levels of innovation, functionality, and convenience.
The combination of new appliance products and enhanced Internet-based
services from Whirlpool will help families keep up the family
calendar, manage community and social activities, work from
anywhere, shop on-line with ease, and learn and play in exciting
new ways.
